Artist Statement
I don’t put much stock in artist’s statements and I doubt if anyone gains much insight into an artist or his work by a few written sentences. If the work on the wall doesn’t grab you neither will a “statement”. Art is not made of nouns, verbs, adverbs or adjectives.
In any case, after 30 plus years devoted to abstract art, I find myself once again confronted with the problems and challenges of working with the human figure…..an infinitely rewarding and challenging pursuit.
In my photo collages I typically combine two, but sometimes three similar but slightly different photographs. These two or three photographs are cut into different strips approximately one-eight inch wide with a steel straightedge and knife. These strips are assembled into the final composition by adhering them alternately from one photograph to the other(s).
It is always my hope and expectation that the resulting image will be more original, exciting, and interesting than the individual photographs.
